![]() ![]() ![]() It's nice to discover a gem from the new wave 80's when I thought I'd heard it all.The full list of exclusive releases coming to independent UK record shops as part of Record Store Day 2023 has been revealed. Perfect! Great driving music, I just love his guitar playing. Those 3 and the bulk of the 1st and 3rd cds ended up being EXACTLY enough stuff I liked to fill one cd-r. There were only 3 songs I tagged for my cd-r from the 2nd album, "Listen" : What Am I Supposed To Do, Quicksand, and The Traveller. I made a cd-r for the car from the 3 cds by listening to each cd and noting which tracks I liked. I didn't care for too much of the 2nd album, "Listen" on first pass, I may need to go back and relisten soon. I think it was another thread here or over at the new wave forum that sparked it off.Īnyway, the 1st and 3rd albums are really good. Recently for some reason I decided to pick up the first 3 albums on cd, reissued on Cherry Red. But those first 3 albums cannot be dismissed.Ĭlick to expand.I never paid them much attention before, although I liked the singles I never owned any of their albums or singles. The guitar was replaced by dancey keyboard heavy songs about Mike Score being hot for a variety of woman. Though I can't completely discount Mike Score (despite his well known ego), because his voice is great and like no other.īut there is no saving the band when they put out the terrible Dream Come True album. But I re-evaluated the album several years ago and realized how excellent it really is, thanks again primarily to Paul Reynolds. ![]() They dumped the sci-fi themes and started writing about, gasp, human problems. Other than the classic 'The More You Live, The More You Love', the third album, The Story of a Young Heart, escaped me for years. 'Electrics', 'The Traveler', 'Over The Border', and the awesome gothic sounds of 'The Fall' are amazing. ![]() Side 2 of that album has always been a favorite from start to finish. Unfortunately, the music videos for those songs are soooo bad. I much prefer 'Nightmares' and especially the new version of '(It's Not Me) Talking'. Listen was a great sophomore album, though I will admit that I've never been in love with 'Wishing'. What a great and individual sound they had. And I cannot forget the non-LP winners 'Windows' and 'Pick Me Up'. All of the singles from it, including 'Telecommunication', 'Modern Love is Automatic' and 'Space Age Love Song', are all stellar, as are album tracks 'You Can Run', 'Messages' and 'Standing in the Doorway'. I was amazed to find out he was only a teenager at the time. He had such a distinctive sound that brought those songs to life. Paul was a tormented genius who self-destructed, rather than building further. Mike Score may claim he wrote the songs entirely on his own, but his one-fingered keyboard work shows his musical limitations. The guitar work of Paul Reynolds was the heart of the music, and there's no way around it. I still adore the video and it's a total timepiece of the era. From the minute I saw the video for 'I Ran', I was hooked. I could get poorer condition copies cheaper but I'm trying to get them in decent shape.ĪFOS were my first MTV love in May 1982. I still have a lot of vinyl to buy and just today shelled out $30 (with shipping) for a decent copy of the 'I Ran' UK 12". I started getting the AFOS vinyl a few weeks ago and have been playing my CD's (on my iPhone) with increased frequency. and have to ship from all over the world). I've been going through vinyl collecting phases, collecting entire UK discographies of LP, 12" and 7" (which sucks when you are in the U.S. How ironic this thread appeared, because I have been on a major AFOS kick for the last few weeks. ![]()
