![]() ![]() Eggs are laid in nests that are close to the ground and well hidden in plants and lower branches of trees. Eggs are laid beginning in April with the majority from mid-May until the mid-July. These hummingbirds are considered polygynous. These actions continue throughout the breeding season. After the initial attraction, mating ensues on the ground. Males dive in a “J” motion to attract females. Rufous hummingbirds have a breeding season from April to July.
